Works Off-Grid
Solar Panels Plus of Chesapeake, Va., has introduced
the SplitCool DC18, a DC-powered, high-efficiency
air-conditioning system designed for off-grid ap-
plications or where backup power may be required
to assure cooling through blackouts. The system
runs off four or more 12-volt batteries charged by
a photovoltaic (PV) array. A brushless, permanent
magnet DC motor with a digital frequency driver
adjusts power dynamically, based on load. On a
given day, it can be an 18,000-British thermal unit
(Btu) air conditioner or a 4,000-, 8,000- or 12,000-Btu
air conditioner, depending on need. It’s suitable
for both permanent buildings and for temporary
remote structures, such as construction office
trailers, portable classrooms and medical facilities.

Max Web xp Offers Remote Control
of PV Farms
Sputnik Engineering of Biel, Switzerland, has
launched the web-based data logger Max Web xp.
Like its predecessor Max Web, Max Web xp records
power measurement values, yield data and events
in large grid-tied photovoltaic (PV) arrays and
transmits them automatically to the SolarMax web
portal. The system monitors operations and sends
fault signals to as many as three recipients by e-mail
or SMS. The setup wizard helps you to configure
your Max Web xp. The addition of the MaxRemote
option to the expansion port makes additional,
external interface converters unnecessary to meet
German grid interoperability requirements enacted
in 2009, for arrays over 100 kilowatts. An easily
navigable menu permits the plant operator to give
the signal from the wireless remote control receiver
unrestricted access to the necessary inverter control

ecution on Max Web xp is protected by a password
