mitsubishi ramps up Production
Mitsubishi ( mitsubishielectric-usa.com) in February announced it had achieved
19. 3 percent efficiency in a polysilicon photovoltaic (PV) cell, mainly by engineering a 4
percent reduction in resistance between the
semiconductor and its attached electrodes.
At the same time, the company completed
construction of its second silicon PV factory,
in Nagano, Japan, with a goal of producing 50
megawatts (MW) of modules annually within
a year and 600 MW “at an early stage.” The
company expects the world market for PV to
reach 8,000 MW in fiscal 2012 (beginning in
April 2011). To meet demand, Mitsubishi will
build new production lines to manufacture
high-efficiency monocrystalline silicon PV
modules in Kyoto, Japan. Plans are also in place
to increase production of inverters 50 percent,
to 6,000 units per month, by this May. ST
