Solar Pioneer Devoted Life
to Renewable Energy
Harold Hay was a vocal critic of the solar industry — and also one of its loud-est proponents.
Hay, who passed away Dec.
22 at 100, was a solar pioneer,
best known for his invention
of the Skytherm system in the
1970s. Using roof-mounted
plastic bladders full of water,
the system helped heat and
cool buildings using the power of the sun alone. While
