Nominate an ASES Award Recipient
Each year, the American Solar Energy Society (ASES) honors people
who have made outstanding contributions to the society or to the solar
energy community. Nominations for 2010 awards are due Jan. 29.
The Charles Greeley Abbot Award is given to an individual who has
made a significant contribution to the field of solar energy or to ASES.
The Passive Pioneer Award is presented to a person (or group) whose
creative and original thinking and research has led to new developments
in the passive solar energy field. The Rebecca Vories Award honors a
volunteer whose efforts have significantly advanced the ability of ASES to
accomplish its mission. The John and Barbara Yellott Award recognizes
an outstanding graduate student working in the solar energy field and
includes a $500 scholarship. The Hoyt Clarke Hottel Award goes to an
individual who has made a significant contribution in any area of the solar
energy field. Lastly, the Women in Solar Energy Award recognizes the
contributions of women in the solar field. A list of previous recipients
and nomination forms can be found at ases.org/awards. The winners will
be honored at SOLAR 2010, the ASES National Solar Conference, in
Phoenix, May 17–22.
ASES Solar Heroes, Coming To Your Local Whole Foods
Next time you’re doing your weekly grocery shopping, keep an eye out
for some familiar faces. ASES has partnered
with Whole Foods to recognize some of the
society’s unsung solar heroes. Whole Foods
stores across the nation are putting up ASES
posters that feature solar proponents who are
making a difference in their communities. Previously featured in SOLAR TODAY magazine,
these heroes include solar champions such as
Bill Sinkin, a 96-year-old Texan who is working
hard to make San Antonio a solar leader. The
