Hyundai Blue-Will
Plug-In Hybrid Concept
Featured at the Seoul Motor Show last spring,
the Blue-Will hybrid concept showcases the
technology that Hyundai hopes will move it
to the forefront of the hybrid conversation.
Its gas engine is boosted by a 100-kilowatt
(134-horsepower) electric motor powered by
an innovative lithium polymer battery system.
The lithium batteries are expected to be 10
percent more efficient and 30 percent lighter
than a nickel-metal hydride pack of equivalent
power. The Blue-Will also features a panoramic
roof made of dye-sensitized solar cells, which
send power to the batteries without impeding
vision. While consumers shouldn’t expect to be
able to purchase a Blue- Will anytime soon, many
of its energy-efficient technologies could be
seen in other Hyundai models as early as 2010.
