Sun Table Runs Lamp, Laptop, DVD Player
Made in New York City, the Sun Table houses a 64-watt photovoltaic module
that feeds a 13 amp-hour nickel-metal hydride battery pack. Its output is 150
watts at either 12 volts DC or 120 volts AC, using an inverter, which is included. The teak-trimmed surface, at 54 by 31 inches (137 by 79 cm), can be tilted
toward the sun for fast charging (four hours to full charge). With 18-inch (46-

southwest windpower
The United States Botanic Garden, a few
hundred feet from the Capitol, is the site of
two grid-tied residential-scale wind turbines,
a Skystream 3. 7 (shown here) from Southwest
Windpower ( windenergy.com), and a Wind-
spire vertical axis machine from Mariah Power
( mariahpower.com). Both machines were in
operation during the presidential inauguration
ceremony in January. ST
